Academic Honesty

• You must do all your assignments yourself, but you ask people how they do their work.

• We will look at your source code.

• If we determine that you plagiarized, you will lose all credit of the assignment/project.

• We look for code similarity.

  If A’s code is similar to B’s, we say they both plagiarized. They will get 0 on the assignment/project.

  Only 3-4 similar lines can get you caught.

• We are not stupid.

  • We distinguish between trivial codes that most people will write it in one particular way and more complex codes.

  • We have tools to catch plagiarism.

• Losing credit of a project can make your grade C. A grade of C in graduate school means risk of retirement.

• How to avoid being suspected of plagiarism?

  • When asking other people how to do an assignment, ask for the idea. Not the code.
  • Type all the assignment by yourself, in isolation. Do not code at the sample place as your friends.
